When my husband left via text while I was on holiday with my five kids, I faced every parent’s worst nightmare. No access to money, no financial support, and the overwhelming responsibility of providing for my children completely on my own. Rock bottom felt like an understatement.

On New Year’s Day 2020, the House Mum concept was born over a conversation in Thailand: “What if we had a cleaning business, but Mums come in and do the Mum things?”
Within weeks of starting, House Mum was fully booked. By the end of 2020, I’d built a six-figure business. By 2024, it became a seven-figure operation. But the real success isn’t just in the numbers – it’s in the proof that a mum with determination, the right training, and a willingness to get started can create financial independence while helping other families thrive.

Being A Home Assistant
At House Mum, we’re not just a cleaning business – we’re a family. We understand the juggle of parenthood and the desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
That’s why we offer employment across a 4-day work week with flexible days & hours, providing the ability to be there for your family’s special events and pivotal moments.
What you can expect as an employee of House Mum:
- $33/hr plus superannuation
- A starter kit that includes everything you need to start your House Mum journey
- Be part of an encouraging team, and become part of our House Mum family
- Work across a 4-day work week: Tuesday – Friday (days and hours are flexible).
As part of our team, you’ll do more than just clean; you’ll be the other Mum for families, providing a helping hand where it’s needed most, working your magic in 1-3 homes per day. In addition to luxury cleaning services, you may also complete tasks such as:
- Linen changes
- Laundry
- Ironing
- Meal prep or cooking and baking
- Tidying and Organisation
- Unpacking groceries or running other errands
We love to go above and beyond:
- Laying out pyjamas and folding back blankets if a client has mentioned they’ll be home late
- Beautifully presenting fresh towels for guests when clients mention they will be expecting guests or house sitters
- Replenishing products you notice are low, such as hand wash

I’ve never worked in cleaning before, can I really do this?
Absolutely! Most of our successful House Mums had no professional cleaning experience. You already have the skills – household management, time management, attention to detail, and care for family spaces. We provide all the training you need to deliver luxury-level service.
How do I fit this around school hours and family commitments?
This is designed BY mums FOR mums. We completely understand school pickup, sick kids, and family priorities. You set your own schedule and work around your family’s needs. Many of our House Mums work during school hours only.
What if I don’t have money to invest in training?
We offer payment plans to make the Cleaning Business School accessible. Plus, many of our graduates start earning back their investment within their first month. If you’re joining our team, training is provided as part of your onboarding.
How much can I realistically earn?
Team members inside House Mum typically earn $33 per hour (well above standard cleaning rates). Those who go on to do our Cleaning Business School and start their own Home Assistant business, we recommend they charge no less than $50/hour.
Some earn a comfortable part-time income, while others build six-figure operations. Your earning potential depends on how much you want to work, how much you want to be responsible for (there’s a lot more in your own business), and how much you want to grow.
What support do I get after training?
Ongoing support is huge for us. Team members get continuous mentorship and training updates. Business owners get access to our community, ongoing coaching calls, and updated training materials. You’re never alone in this journey.
I live outside Brisbane – can I still do this?
Yes! While our direct team is currently Brisbane-based, the Cleaning Business School trains people to start their own House Mum-style businesses anywhere in Australia. We’re actively expanding and looking for passionate mums in other areas.
